NSL WEEK 227- Adobe Illustrator “Color Halftone Live Effect”

Color Halftone Live Effect in Adobe Illustrator was something I looked into a long time ago. I think it was Never Stop Learning week 3 or 4 and I’m now in week 227.

Check out the video above to see a basic overview of this Live Effect.

You can find this Live Effect in the Effects Menu.

This is what the default settings look like for Color Halftone Live Effect.

Here I’m setting all of the Screen Angles to the same value so that the different channels are directly on top of each other.

When you set all the Channels to the same Screen Angle, you end up with black dots.

Adobe Illustrator Document Raster Effects Settings

This is a pixel based Live Effect so you have to be mindful of the Document Raster Effects Settings. In this workflow I want to run an Image Trace to end up with Vector Dots. Before running an Image Trace it’s important to increase the resolution to end up with the cleanest circles possible.

In this example, I’m going to set the Image Trace panel to Ignore White. This will make sure I only have the black vector dots without a white square around my artwork. Once you Expand this, you’ll be left with some clean vector dots. Make sure you check out the video to see the whole process.
