The ability to generate new guides from vector shapes is a new feature in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014.

The first use I thought of was quickly setting up guides when you’re mocking up a website.

You might find it useful to assign those functions to 1 button clicks.

In the past when you would create some area type, your frames would only come as Fixed Height Frames.
