N.S.L: WEEK 176 – Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 “New Guides From Shape”

The ability to generate new guides from vector shapes is a new feature in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014.

The first use I thought of was quickly setting up guides when you’re mocking up a website. I figured my web developer homies would dig this feature.

New Feature New Guides From Shape

New Guides From Shape

First you have to create a vector object, make sure you have it selected, then go into the View menu and find New Guides From Shape.

Guide on Edge Selected Shapes

If you only have one shape selected, it will result in 1 guide at each edge of your transformation boundary.

Multiple Shapes to generate Guides

You are not limited to generating guides from 1 shape at a time. You can have multiple shapes selected and generate guides for each shape at once.

It’s easy to covert text into vectors which means we can use that to create our guides with this new feature. Just right-click on the Type Layer to find your options.

New Photoshop Features

Convert Text To Shape

When you Convert Text to Shape, it breaks it down to individual shapes for each and every letter. That’s why you end up seeing so many guides.

Create Work Path

In some cases, you might want to set up guides around the set of letters. If you Create a Work Path, you’ll only end up with 4 guides along the edges of the words.
