NSL WEEK 300- Adobe Illustrator “Crop Image”

Man! I’ve been wanting this feature for a long time. You can now Crop an image in Adobe Illustrator CC 2017.

Check out the video above to learn the basics.

To be real, this feature won’t “change the world”. The reason I’ve been wanting to Crop in Ai is because it just feels like you should be able to. It’s something I run into when I’m working off of templates. I hated having to leave Ai, go to Ps, Crop it up and bring it back to Ai. It’s a bunch of extra steps for something that feels super simple. I know you can Mask and image, but that’s not the same thing at all.

Crop Image

When you select an image, you get a “Crop Image” button at the top. Clicking on that gets you into “Crop Mode”.

Here I’m using the bounding box to define a Crop area. You can also enter in specific values in the Options Bar at the top.

Here is the Crop result. This is a true Crop, not a Mask.
