NSL WEEK 294- Adobe Illustrator “3D Text Extrusion Basics”

Last week I played around with 3D Text in Adobe Photoshop so I figured this week I’d play around with 3D Text in Adobe Illustrator.

Check out the video above to learn the basics.

Effects Menu in Adobe Illustrator

Fist you want to select your artwork that you want to extrude, jump into the Effects Menu, find 3D then choose Extrude & Bevel. This will apply the extrusion as a Live Effect so we can make changes to it in the future if needed.

Position presets are great! It’s a quick way to get to the most common positions that are used for this type of design.

Reset Options in Adobe Illustrator

This is super important to me! Being able to reset the options is great because it gives you the freedom to experiment. Well, it helps me! This way I know I can always make it back to the starting point without any problems.

You use the cube to reposition your 3D manually.

Reposition using the wheels.

You can find the Extrusion controls at the bottom of the basic Options. You can enter in a specific value or just use the slider to adjust.
