NSL WEEK 263- Adobe Illustrator “Live Paint Selection Tool”

This is one of those tools in Adobe Illustrator that I haven’t heard about =D

Thanks to Chana Messer for teaching me the basics!

I love grabbing lunch and geeking out about vectors with my friends. Chana and I will camp out at a restaurant, with our MBP’s out, and trade info. During one of our sessions she showed me this cool trick using the Live Paint Selection Tool.

Adobe Illustrator

Here I have 4 basics paths. I selected them all and created a Live Paint Group by hitting Command+Option+X. You need a Live Paint Group in order to use any of the Live Paint Tools.

You can activate the Live Paint Selection Tool by selecting it in the Tools Panel or just hit Shift+L.

When you hover over your vectors, you’ll see a preview of the area you are going to target.

This design will never win an award =D But I was BLOWN AWAY by this because I’m a huge vector nerd AND because I have 3 different appearances applied to a single path. No need to chop it up into smaller segments. Plus you get the bonus of it being LIVE. Which means the appearance will update when I alter the vectors. Check out the video above to see it in action.
