Convert to Shape Live Effect in Adobe Illustrator
I wanted to show you guys how this effect works, so I figured I’d show you how I use it in practice. It’s a cool effect but if you see it in action, I’m hoping it’ll inspire you in your workflow.
There are many uses for this effect and in this video I’ll show you how to use it in a Vinyl Transfer workflow. It’s a great technique for custom t-shirt printers and team uniform producers.
Go into the Effect menu and find Convert to Shape towards the top of the list.
Default settings for Convert to Shape.
Here you can see the “Relative” option in action. Every time that the objects are updated, the Rectangle will adjust with it automatically!
This is the “Absolute” option. You can define a specific size for you rectangle. This is great for signage, labels, etc.
Rectangle is set to “Absolute” and the text has been updated. Notice the rectangle remained at the specified size.
