When you create a new brush, you have a couple different options. To find the “Stretch Between Guides” feature, you have to create a new “Art Brush”.

Stretch Between Guides

You set-up your guides to define the area of your art brush that is allowed to be stretched. Everything outside of the guides will be protected.

Default Adobe Illustrator
Stretch to Fit Stroke Length

The default is to “Stretch to Fit Stroke Length”. Check out the image above. If I use this option, my brush is being stretched. In this situation, I don’t like the result. I’d like the flower to retain it’s shape.

With this option, we can tell Illustrator what should be stretched. Notice the flower and leaves are intact.

This is an extreme to show you how powerful this feature is.
