NSL WEEK 195- Adobe Illustrator CC “Create Outlines”

Whenever you send out artwork to be printed by a 3rd party, they ask you to “convert text to outlines”.

What does that mean? Check out the video above to find out.

****

Adobe Illustrator
Type: Create Outlines

You can find this function in the Type menu but it’s best to just use the keyboard shortcut:
Command + Shift + O (for Outline)

Outlined Text vs. Live Text

It’s important to Create Outlines before sending off to be printed. This will ensure that your design comes out exactly how you envisioned it. If the recipient machine does not have the same font as your design, it will still look correct. Warning: Once you have Created Outlines, you can not change the font or edit the letters as normal type. Adobe Illustrator will now see it as just anchorpoints and paths.

If you send Live Text and the recipient machine does not have the same font, it will not look correct.

Creating Outlines will also allow you to edit the letter shapes using paths and anchorpoints.
